If you were on the third floor of DePaul’s\u00a0Schmidt Academic Center during\u00a0the first week of April, you might have noticed that the hallways were not quite as bustling as usual. From April 6-9, several WRD faculty members traveled to Houston, Texas to attend the annual Conference on College Composition and Communication<\/a>, or CCCC\u2014the largest academic conference dedicated to\u00a0writing and the teaching of writing.<\/p>\n

• Julie Bokser<\/a>, along with Sarah Brown<\/a>, Michelle Navarre Cleary<\/a>, and Kathryn Wozniak<\/a>, presented on “Identifying and Eliciting Students’ Metacognitive Development”<\/li>\n
• Sarah Read<\/a> and WRD student\u00a0Theresa Bailey<\/a> presented on “Results of a Study on the Status of the Multi-major Professional Writing Course in U.S. Institutions of Higher Education”<\/li>\n
• Darsie Bowden<\/a> presented on “SIG: Senior, Late-Career, and Retired Professionals in Rhet\/Comp\/Writing Studies”<\/li>\n
• Bowden, along with \u00a0Lauri Dietz<\/a> and\u00a0WRD alums Amanda Gaddam<\/a> and \u00a0Bridget Wagner<\/a>\u00a0also presented on “Between the Lines: Exploring Difference in Students\u2019 Response to Feedback”<\/li>\n
• Antonio Ceraso<\/a> presented on “Deweyan Lineages: Writing, Action, and the Public Sphere”<\/li>\n
• Kassia Shaw<\/a> presented on\u00a0\u201cBridging Diversity and Community Partnerships in First-Year Composition\u201d and served as chair on a panel on “Framing Visual Composition and Multimedia Writing”<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

  At the conference, WRD Assistant Professor Lisa Dush<\/a>\u00a0also formally accepted the Richard Braddock Award<\/a> for her article “When Writing Becomes Content<\/a>.”<\/p>\n

  Believe it or not, it’s already time to get ready for next year’s CCCC!\u00a0The 2017\u00a0CCCC Annual Convention<\/a> will be from\u00a0March 15\u201318 in Portland, Oregon. The theme for 2017 will be “Cultivating Capacity, Creating Change.”<\/p>\n

  Interested in presenting? Presentation\u00a0proposals<\/a> are due this Monday, May 9 at 11:59 pm<\/strong>. For DePaul graduate students, travel assistance and presentation costs may be available through the College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences’s\u00a0Graduate Funding Program<\/a>.<\/p>\n
