Since all WRD students are encouraged to complete a professional internship prior to graduation, applying for an internship award is strongly advised. Students who receive the CPBL internship scholarship may be eligible to receive ongoing funding to continue in their internship role!

We are happy to announce the four WRD CPBL Internship Scholarship winners who successfully secured and completed internships this year:

Nicole Hack (graduate) interned with Heart of the City (HOTC), an organization whose mission is to provide opportunities for Lake County (IL) youth to participate in recreational and competitive soccer. HOTC formed to bridge the gap in accessible opportunities for low-income Waukegan youth to play soccer. Hack worked with the HOTC team to develop a viable content strategy with the goal of creating and marketing usable content.

Teresa Martinez (undergraduate) interned with Mano a Mano, an organization whose mission is to support and empower immigrant families to be successful, confident participants in American life. Martinez collaborated with the Mano a Mano team to develop a bilingual Spanish-English, culturally aware communications plan.

Channing Tabb (graduate) interned with Curt’s Café, an organization whose mission is to provide young adults living in at-risk situations with foundational workplace and life skills needed to foster better outcomes in their lives. Tabb assisted Curt’s Café in finding viable funding opportunities by completing government grant opportunity research, writing letters of inquiry/proposals, and completing major donor research.

Andrew Zion (undergraduate) is currently completing an internship with the American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA), an organization whose mission is to provide quality education and certification to medical assistant professionals. Zion is working with the Marketing & Communications team on content for the AAMA flagship magazine, CMA Today, and other content-related projects. Zion writes,

Working through these assignments has helped me develop a wider perspective on the impact of the AAMA and how it operates.

WRD students interested in applying for the CPBL internship scholarship are encouraged to reach out to their advisor, or the MA director, Lisa Dush, prior to submitting an application.
