Publication and Professionalization Opportunities

Taking opportunities to participate in conferences and publish original work can be a great complement to learning in the WRD Department, for students at all levels!

Below, discover resources for conference, publication, and professional organization opportunities. Opportunities best suited for undergraduate and graduate students are emphasized for each category.


Conferences

  • For undergraduate students – check out SIGDOC, who hosts a section for undergraduate research at their annual conference.
  • The College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences offers several undergraduate conferences throughout the year where students can present original research.
  • Explore funding possibilities for presentations and other research through the undergraduate research fund of the College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences.
  • For graduate students – there are many opportunities for MAWRD students to present at conference from NCTE”s annual CCC Convention to more specialized conferences such as the Association for Rhetoric of Science, Technology, and Medicine’s biennial pre-convention event.

  • Graduate students are able to apply for funding to present at conferences through the College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences’ graduate research fund.

Publications

  • For undergraduate students – check out the Journal for Undergraduate Multimedia Projects, a great place to share creative multimedia productions and research.
  • For graduate students – be sure to explore the range of publications in both documents, both of which accept submissions from MA- and PhD-level students alike.
