Here’s some news on what our MA in WRD and MA in NMS graduates and faculty have been up to in the last five months…
NMS Alumni
Daisy Franco (2012) began a new job in May as Director of Public Relations and Marketing for the City Colleges of Chicago.
Kim Galovich (2014) recently started a position at Digital Marketing for RXBAR, a Chicago start-up company that sells natural protein bars. She handles email marketing and online advertising and manages website content.
Mike Garabedian (2015) has a new position as an Account Coordinator at Fishman Public Relations in Chicago and Northbrook, IL.
Lindsay Green (2014) works as a Marketing Coordinator at Project Management Advisors, Inc. and is currently in the process of assisting in the design and launch of a new company website by the end of the year.
Molly Koeneman (2015) moved companies in January 2015. She is now the SEO and Digital Analytics Manager at Vertical Web Media. She also became heavily involved in the new professional women’s magazine FW: Chicago as its Digital and Social Media Manager.
Chris Jones (2011) just celebrated his one-year anniversary as Director of Web Communications for North Central College.
Kelsey Landis (2014) started a new full-time position with The Telegraph, a mid-sized newspaper in Alton, Illinois.
Tom Phillips (2013) began working with Newell Rubbermaid as the Social Media Coordinator for their Contigo brand in May.
Andrew Zamorski (2013) has been accepted to DePaul’s College of Communication for a second master’s degree program in Public Relations and Advertising.
WRD Alumni
Alyssa Conway (2015) was named as a “Folio 30 under 30” honoree for 2015. The “Folio 30 under 30” are individuals, under age 30, who are executing on some of the media and publishing industry’s most innovative ideas.
Nadene Eisner (2015) teaches first-year writing at Joliet Junior College and the College of DuPage.
Mitchell Goins (2015) recently published “Written Corrective Feedback: Strategies for L2 Writing Instructors” in the Second Language Writing Interest Section’s Newsletter (a newsletter published through TESOL.org).
Amy Hubbard (2013) recently worked with a design team to build Food with Thought, a new website for food distribution company Plated.
Shannon Kelley (2014) teachers a combination of writing classes (intro to composition, the college essay, research writing and technical communications) at Chemeketa Community College and Clark College, both near her home in Portland, OR.
Liz Lane (2010) presented her original research “Sustaining a #FemFuture: Online Feminist Interventions and Subversions to Hostile Speech” in May at the Computers & Writing Conference at University of Wisconsin- Stout. She also has two other presentations this month: “Networking Service Engagement and Work: Our Experiences with 4C4Equality” at the Conference on Community Writing Conference and “Building a #FemFuture: Feminist Activism as Rhetorical Intervention” at the 10th Biennial Feminisms and Rhetorics conference.
Kim Reynolds (aka Kim Coon) (2012) recently started a new position as Marketing Communications Consultant at OneAmerica Financial Services.
Faculty
Associate Professor Julie Bokser recently published “Teaching and Inventing Public Memorials: Chicago Women Rhetors” for the book Pedagogies of Public Memory: Teaching Writing and Rhetoric at Museums, Archives, and Memorial. This fall she co-presented with DePaul AVP Caryn Chaden “Writing to Encourage Metacognition” as part of their participation in Cohort VII of the Inter/National Coalition on E-Portfolio Research. In May, Cohort VII also presented “Guiding Students in Metacognition” at the Teaching and Learning Conference. (The Cohort VII team includes Sarah Brown, Caryn Chaden, Michael Moore, Michelle Navarre Cleary, Susan Reed, Eileen Seifert, Kathryn Wozniak, Liliana Zecker.)
Assistant Professor Lisa Dush presented a talk entitled “Three Different Kinds of Work that Digital Stories Can Do For Nonprofits,” on September 26, at the 6th International Digital Storytelling Conference, in Amherst, MA. Dush also presented “The MA Program in Writing as a Provider of Nonprofit Digital Media Training,” on October 17, at the Conference on Community Writing in Boulder, CO.
