MAWRD Alumni Spotlight: Natalie Schawel

WRD alumna Natalie Schawel graduated in June 2018 with an MA in WRD with a concentration in teaching and a certification in TESOL. We recently spoke to Natalie to learn more about her transition from teaching high school English to her current position as a Web Content Specialist for Care Content, and how her experiences in the WRD program helped to guide her career path.

The WRD Department hosted Dr. Frankie Condon for its Autumn Quarter Writing & Rhetoric Across Borders Speaker Series. Dr. Condon, an Associate Professor at the University of Waterloo, led a workshop and a talk on anti-racism and racial imaginaries.

Course Spotlight: WRD 540, Teaching Writing

WRD 540 Teaching Writing is a graduate course under the Teaching Writing & Language concentration. Taught by Dr. Erin Workman, this course introduces students to current pedagogy of teaching writing. Students are expected to walk away with both a theoretical and practical understanding, knowing what is involved in managing a writing course underlined by a personal teaching. philosophy.

Dr. Frankie Condon visits DePaul October 22

For the Autumn Quarter’s Writing & Rhetoric Across Borders Speaker Series, WRD has invited Dr. Frankie Condon to speak on Tuesday, October 22. In her talk, Dr. Condon will discuss the racial imaginations present among writing teachers and tutors and assess how it influences the pedagogical values and systems at play in their environments.
