Associate Director of the First-Year Writing Program | University of Illinois at Chicago

The University of Illinois at Chicago is running a search for a full-time Associate Director of the First-Year Writing Program. This is a 12-month academic professional position whose duties will involve both program administration and teaching. The application deadline is November 25. The successful applicant will demonstrate the ability to take on a critical administrative role and a commitment to teaching first-year writing courses to a diverse student body. The position will oversee the scheduling and staffing of all first-year writing courses; help evaluate curricular, programming, personnel, and budgetary matters; coordinate the placement testing process; monitor student enrollment in first-year writing courses and respond to all related inquiries; and supervise all administrative functions of the first-year writing program office, including running the weekly staff meetings. The Associate Director will teach one section of a first-year writing course each fall and spring semester.

Qualifications

A minimum of 2 years teaching first-year writing required. M.A. or Ph.D. in English or a related field required. Administrative experience in a college writing program strongly preferred.

English Adjunct Instructor | National Louis University

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree or higher in English, Composition, Creative Writing, Written Communications, Literature, Rhetoric, Communication or closely related field. Or; Master’s degree; and 18 graduate semester hours in English, Composition, Creative Writing, Written Communications, Literature, Rhetoric, Communication or closely related field.
  • Experience with digital tools for teaching, teaching in either online or blended/hybrid formats, and teaching to students of diverse backgrounds and abilities strongly preferred.
  • Spanish-English bilingual or experience teaching English Language Learners a plus

ABE/ESL Instructor | Chinese Mutual Aid Association

Chinese Mutual Aid Association (CMAA) is seeking an Adult Basic Education (ABE) and/or English as a Second Language (ESL) Instructor to support its Adult Education, Workforce, and Citizenship programs. This instructor will prepare limited English proficient adult learners to succeed in the workforce, access post secondary education or training opportunities, and otherwise participate in their communities. 

Qualifications

  • Experience managing multiple projects, the ability to keep concise and accurate records, the ability to adapt to changing work priorities and maintain flexible working hours
  • Proven ability to work both independently and as a team member, cooperating with and demonstrating cultural sensitivity to staff and constituents 
  • Previous experience teaching English as a Second Language or Adult Basic Education to adults
  • Bachelor’s degree
